AngelsSnowboard ok, i'm 15 and a freshman. for a world history project, i need to take the blueprints of the school, add walls, to make a castle. but i'm over here looking at a lot of english and scottish casltes (that's all I could find) and i see an inner ward, and outer ward, and it's curtains and towers. so i'm kind of wondering where such things as the thrown room, innersanctum, great hall, kitchen, butlery, king's chamber, etc. and could I just plop the school in the innerward, like a keep? did castles have funny shaped buildings in the middle of their wards. and could I put the chamber, galley, butlery, etc in there. or my other idea is to build an east wing, and make it a giant circle, and that would be the inner curtain.(the schol is kind of u shaped) and have the innerward inside that? or maybe do both, and have a courtyard, giant building, innerward, innercurtain(with towers, and gatehouses) outerward, outercurtain then moat. could that work, and still fit into a medieval castle "style" Erik Schmidt Castles vary a great deal. To remodel your "U" shaped school into a castle could be done along the lines of Germanic castles, which often had buildings making up the outer defences.
Go here for examples of German castles, some with plans; http://www.burgenwelt.de/frameset.htm
Click on "Burgen" and then the various regions.
